Saudi Arabia has been elected to the Executive Board of UNESCO for 2019-2023.
Following the announcement, Minister of Culture Prince Badr Bin Abdullah Bin Farhan said that “the Kingdom’s election to the UNESCO Executive Council is an affirmation of its international status and its role in building peace and contributing effectively to the establishment of the principles of culture and science.”
Prince Badr also thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman for their tireless support of arts and culture and congratulated the Kingdom’s leadership on winning a seat on the UNESCO Executive Council.
The Executive Board ensures the overall management of UNESCO. It prepares the work of the organisation, as determined during the biennial meetings of the UNESCO General Conference, and sees that the decisions made at the Conference are properly carried out.
