Important Cities

There are many major cities in the People's Republic of China, which are considered important economic and cultural centers, and play a major role in economy, politics, and culture. The most prominent of these cities are:

Beijing:

The capital of the People's Republic of China, and its most populous city. It is the center of politics, culture, and science. It includes most government headquarters and ministries, Chinese national banks, the headquarters of major local and international investment groups, and foreign embassies. The Chinese capital also has one of the most important tourist attractions in the world, such as the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and the Great Wall of China, and includes many prestigious universities such as; Peking University and Tsinghua University.

Shanghai:

It is considered one of the largest and most important cities in the People's Republic of China, as well as the most important financial and commercial center in China. It is one of the four central municipalities in China. It is located on the east coast near the mouth of the Yangtze River, and it is a major center for industry, technology, trade and financial services. Shanghai is famous for its buildings and skyscrapers, such as Shanghai Tower, the second tallest tower in the world, and the Shanghai World Financial Center. It is also an important cultural center, with a number of museums and art galleries. Tourist attractions in Shanghai include the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Bund and the Shanghai Museum.

Guangzhou:

One of the largest cities in the People's Republic of China, and the capital of Guangdong Province in southern China. It is known as a major center for trade and manufacturing. It is famous for its long history as a commercial city, as it was part of the Maritime Silk Road, as well as one of the main economic centers in China. The city hosts the Canton Fair, one of the largest trade fairs in the world, and due to its geographical location and historical role as a commercial port, Guangzhou is considered an important gateway for trade between China and the outside world. Among the most important tourist attractions in the city are Canton and Yun Shan Park.

Shenzhen:

It is considered one of the fastest growing cities in the world and an important center for technology. It is located in Guangdong Province. The city is the first special economic zone in China, and this contributed to attracting and developing foreign investments. Shenzhen is known as (China's Silicon Valley) and includes the main centers for a number of well-known Chinese companies such as: (Huawei, Lenovo, Tencent, DJI), and the city's economy depends on advanced industries such as electronics, information technology, etc., in addition to the financial and commercial services sector.

Xi'an:

One of the oldest cities in the People's Republic of China and the capital of many ancient Chinese dynasties, as well as one of the four great cities of Chinese civilization. It is located in Shaanxi Province in northwestern China. It was the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, making it an important commercial and cultural center between East and West over the centuries. Xi'an is famous for its ancient history and important cultural landmarks; the Terracotta Army, which is a group of terracotta sculptures depicting an entire army of warriors and horses, the Old Wall, which is one of the largest walls in the city, the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower.

Chongqing:

It is located in southwest China and is characterized by its mountainous terrain. It is called the City of Mountains, due to its geographical nature full of hills and valleys. The city also has a long history dating back thousands of years, and contains many cultural and historical landmarks listed in UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is one of the fastest growing cities and it is considered an important industrial and commercial center as it contains many factories, as well as major industrial facilities, especially in the fields of automobile and electronics manufacturing.
