The Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Republic of Greece organized on Thursday 22nd September 2001 evening a reception on the

occasion of the Kingdom’s National Day. The celebration commenced with the national anthem and the reception was attended by an impressive number of highly ranked officials, foreign ambassadors accredited to Greece, figures and personalities from Greek society, dignitaries and a number of Saudi citizens either living in Greece or visiting.

H.E. the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Greece, Mr. Saleh Al Ghamdi gave a speech thanking the guests for attending and emphasising the importance of celebrating this day to the people of Saudi Arabia. He also referred to the successful relations and strong ties between the two friendly nations of Greece and Saudi Arabia and their people.

During this occasion the Ambassador also made a statement to the Saudi television news in which he expressed his congratulations and those of his colleagues and Saudi citizens in Athens to the Custodian of the Two Holy cities, the Crown Prince and the Second Deputy Prime Minister. During the reception the guests enjoyed real Arabic coffee and delicious dates; several newly published books on the Kingdom were on display and available as gifts to the guests. Films on Saudi Arabia and the immense achievements accomplished during the sovereignty of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz, may God protect him, were also shown during the celebrations.

During this important event the Dean of the Foreign Diplomatic Corps in Greece, H.E. the Ambassador of Argentina Mr. Jorge Alejandro Mastropietro presented a farewell and commemorative gift on behalf of the diplomatic family to the departing Ambassador H.E. Mr. Saleh Al Ghamdi, who is at the end of his assignment to Greece and his pending transfer to the Italian capital Rome. The Argentinean ambassador commented on the excellent effort and work achieved by H.E. Mr. Saleh Al Ghamdi during his assignment in Greece towards his efforts in the development of the relationships between his country and Greece and his sustained contact with the other foreign Ambassadors and dignitaries in Greek society.
