His Excellency Ambassador and Permanent Representative Ziad Al Atiyah headed the Kingdom's delegation participating in the 99th session of the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) that took place in The Hague from the 8th to the 10th of March 2022. During the opening session, his Excellency delivered a statement in which he reiterated the Kingdom's consistent policy aimed at enhancing the global cooperation to ban weapons of mass destruction and prevent their spread, including making the Middle East a region free of all weapons of mass destruction.

His Excellency also praised the role played by the organization in ensuring the consistency and continuity of its work in light of the current global pandemic. His Excellency also highlighted the importance of the draft resolution that the Kingdom co-sponsored that establishes mechanism to hold the meetings of the Council regularly, and to ensure the continuation of the work of the organization under any circumstances. His Excellency called upon members of the Executive Council to support the draft resolution and adopt it in the nearest session.

His Excellency underlined the importance of the tenth article of the convention, especially with regard to the transfer of technology, equipment and expertise related to chemical industries not prohibited under the convention to developing countries, which will contribute to promoting international economic development and benefit all the parties.
