The Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Ottawa, Canada celebrated the World Arabic Language Day, in partnership with the Saudi Cultural Bureau. The celebration of International Arabic Language Day began in 2012, and it falls on December 18 of every year. This is the date that the United Nations General Assembly adopted Arabic as its sixth official language in 1973.The celebration featured a wide range of events and activities that took place over three days at the University of Ottawa, University of Carleton and Algonquin College. The event highlighted the Kingdom’s contribution to the Arabic language. It featured Arabic music by a Saudi artist, calligraphy by a Saudi writer and artist, as well as Arabic cuisine. The celebration of this day highlights the cognitive, intellectual and scientific contribution of this language in different aspects of human knowledge throughout history. Arabic language is one of the most ancient languages and is rich in its vocabulary. Further, the history of the language extends over 18 centuries.
