Ethiopians demonstrating outside the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia, London on Monday, 18th November were protesting following the expulsion of illegal immigrants from the Kingdom.
All immigrants in Saudi Arabia without the proper documentation were given eight months by the government to put forward their case for staying in the Kingdom legally and correct their immigration status. This decision was widely publicised and circulated in the media.
Protests in Saudi Arabia by Ethiopian illegal immigrants, who are not the only nationals affected, have in the past week resulted in the injury and death of a number of Saudi private citizens, other immigrants as well as members of the security and police forces.
Illegal immigrants have been advised that following deportation they are welcome to reapply to enter the Kingdom legally in accordance with Saudi Arabia's laws and regulations.
This decision has been implemented in coordination with the diplomatic representatives in the Kingdom of those countries whose nationals are affected to ensure the well-being of illegal immigrants throughout the deportation process to their countries of origin.
