Expansion of the Holy Mosque:

Since the era of King Abdulaziz, the Leaders of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia cared for the improvement and expansion of Makah Holy Mosque to cope with the increasing numbers of pilgrims. King Abdulaziz – may he rest in peace – gave this matter the highest priority. In 1344H, he started restoration and repair of walls, columns and the Holy Mosque plate. In 1354H, he ordered to restore the whole mosque. The extension of the mosque started at the era of King Saud – may he rest in peace –, and specifically in Rabi Al Akher 1375H and it was the first extension for 1096 years, since the last extension made by the Abbasside Caliph (Al Muqtader Belah) in 279H . Before the first Saudi extension, the areas of the Holy Mosque was about 28,000 Meter Square, its capacity did not exceed 50,000 prayers. This extension took ten approximately years.

 

Expansions Made by King Fahad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud:

This project is considered the biggest to expansion of the Holy Mosque for 14 centuries, as the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosque laid the corner stone of this huge project, on 2nd Safar 1409H, corresponding to 13/9/1988G. The expansion plan included the addition of a part to the mosque building from the Western side, as well making use of the roof of the Holy Mosque which is about 61,000 square meters. Thereby, the Holy Mosque can accommodate about one and a half Million prayers during the Season of Hajj, Umrah and Ramadan. Additionally, two new minarets were built bringing the number of minarets to Nine. The height of each minaret is 89 Meters.

 

Expansions Made by King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud :

The custodian of the two holy mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz - may God protect him -ordered the implementation of the giant and historical project which includes the Holy Mosque and the surrounding areas; starting Steering North to accommodate up to two million worshipers at the same time, also included the expansion of outer squares of the mosque, that includes utilities, corridors, tunnels and bridges prepared to evacuate the crowds associated with the "terraces", in addition to modern systems of waste disposal, and security surveillance systems, as well as the development of the services which include stations air conditioning, electricity, water, and other stations that provide support to the Holy Mosque, it is expected after the completion of this huge architect project, the expansion space would reach (1000.000) square meters, to be the largest expansion in the history of the Holy Mosque.

 

Expansion of the Masa'a up to Four Stories :

King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz - may God protect him – ordered expansion of Masa'a within its legitimate boundaries, doubled his presentation up to 40 meters, and four floors, The project was completed with extending the width to 40 meters from 20 meters, and the new length of the Masa'a is 350 meters. With the expansion, the total area of Masa'a was increased to 87,000 sq. metres. There are three floors for Sa'i in addition to the basement area, which is meant exclusively for wheelchairs.

 

Expansion and Reconstruction of the Prophet Mosque:

Since the era of King Abdulaziz, the country paid a special attention to the Prophet Mosque – Peace be upon him- and includde it in projects of extension and development. The first extension which King Abdulaziz ordered was in 1370H, where King Saud laid the corner stone of this extension by building four stones in the western wall of the mosque. The project cost was SR 70 Million. This first Saudi extension was the biggest for the Prophet's Mosque since its building.

As for the second extension, it was implemented at the era of King Faisal binn Abdulaziz - may he rest in peace-, which was the addition of an area to the existing building from the western direction.

 

Expansions Made by King Fahad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud:

It is a part of the project of King Fahad to extend and construct the two holy mosques. He laid the corner stone of this project in the 9th of Safar 1405H, corresponding to 20/9/1989G. This project added a new building to the existing one. It also made use of the mosque's roof area for prayer, which is about 67,000 square meter. After the extension, the area of the mosque became 165,000 meter square.

 

King Fahad's Extension is characterized by the following:

The increase of number of the mosque minarets from 4 to 10, height 92 meters, addition of 65 new doors to the existing 16 doors. The total became 81 doors except the entrances, which increase from 7 to 23.

 

Expansions Made by The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud:

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud ordered the expansion of the Prophet's Mosque to reach up to five times of the area of ??the mosque now, and to accommodate more than (2.500000) two and a half million prayers.
The Prophet's Mosque also witnesses in the reign of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz - may God protect him - Many of quality services to serve visitors and worshipers, including the manufacturing and installing of (250) umbrellas, Each of these umbrellas will cover about (143) thousand square meters of the spaces surrounding the mosque of the Prophet on all four sides, as well as shading six tracks on the southern side, and the Chamber of deaf and dumb, as well as the elevators leading to the surface, and 2000 vehicles for people with special needs for free.
Some of the quality services provided to the visitors in the Prophet's Mosque ; benefiting from the technology to provide knowledge, newsletter, and electronic transactions, that is made available to the beneficiaries, including: some guidance through the huge plasma screens in the Prophet's Mosque on both sides north and west, and the addresses pilgrims surrounding the mosque of Prophet, through (GPS) devices , along with guidance to the Prophet's Mosque facilities sites and services and ways to benefit from them.

 

Jamarat Bridge Project:

The holy sites (Arafat, Muzdalifah, Mina) have witnessed during the reign of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz - may God protect him - historical and unprecedented mega-projects, and comes at the forefront the Jamarat project - which made ??it easier for pilgrims to perform rituals without congestion or accidents - at the cost of (4.2 ) billion riyals, and can accommodate more than four million pilgrims, consisting of five floors, with a height of each floor (12 meters), with 12 entrances and 12 exits on all four directions, as well as ports for emergency with a capacity of 300 thousands pilgrims per hour, also includes surveillance cameras working 24/7, and there is also an airstrip for helicopters for emergency situations.

 

Haramain Express Train project :

The custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, ordered the implementation of the express Train project which connects Makkah - Jeddah – Medina.

The project of the Haramain Express Train is an urgent need at the present time for several very important considerations ; growing number of pilgrims year after year, as well as pilgrims, visitors and residents who visit Mecca and Medina during the months of the year. In the seasons, holidays and vacations. It is expected that the annual transport volume for the project over three million passengers annually.

The Haramain Express Train is a railway connects the regions of Mecca and Medina through Jeddah at the length of 480 km, the first stage of the project is to build four stations for passengers, including a station in Mecca, and 2 stations in the city of Jeddah in each of the King Abdul Aziz International Airport and the city center, and the fourth station will be in Medina. The following stages include establishment of the station in King Abdullah Economic City. It features a high-speed train exceeding 300 kilometers per hour.

A double line with the length of 78 kilometers will link both Jeddah and Mecca, which will shorten the distance between the two cities to less than half an hour, while the length of the line, which will link between Jeddah and Medina is 410 kilometers, that will shorten the distance to about two and a half hours . The project will have a vital role in the transferring of pilgrims within the holy sites, especially in the areas of Traffic congestion.

 

Zamzam Project:

The King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Zamzam Project is considered the first of its kind compared to previous projects, The SR700 million station will purify five million liters of the blessed water every day through two main purification lines, each using a number of filters and a sterilization unit. 10 million liters would be stored in a tank, from which water will be pumped to the Grand Mosque through four stainless steel pipes, each with a diameter of 200 millimeters. another two million liters would be pumped every day to a nearby factory, which will package the water. The station has buildings containing reserve electricity generators that produce 10 megawatts of power.

lt also incorporates the latest technology to monitor the purification process from the moment water is pumped out of the well to when it is packaged in containers. It has air cooling, early warning, smoke detecting and sprinkler systems," the minister said.Once the Zamzam water is treated and stored, it is automatically pumped to 42 distribution stations. Pilgrims and visitors can obtain 10-liter containers of the water at these points by inserting coins in special machines.

One project involves improving containers of the blessed water in the Grand Mosque by making them more spacious and easier to draw water from.

 

King Fahad Complex for Printing the Holy Qura`an:

At the top priorities of the Kingdom's activities for service of Islam and Muslims is its attention towards the right printing of Allah `s book, audited and these copies to be distributed to all Muslims all over the world.

the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques gave a special priority to this project as he ordered to build a medical complex in the prophet's city for this purpose. He laid the corner stone of this project in Moharram 1403H and inaugurated it in Safar 1405H. Minister of Endowments, call and guidance takes over the supervision on this complex. This project has many aims. First of all is printing the Holy Qura`an with different sizes and various qualities, of production capacity 7 Million copies annually, record the Holy Qura`an on cassettes by the reputable recites of the Kingdom's readers and some Islamic countries, and makes the complex as a specialized scientific center in research in the holy Qura`an sciences.

Since the era of King Abdulaziz -may Allah be merciful to him – Kingdom of Saudi Arabia gave the top priority to support and help the Muslims all over the world. Kingdom of Saudi Arabia made available of this support through specialized agencies established for this reason as follows:-

Foreign Policy:

Since the era of the founder King Abdulaziz , the Foreign Policy is based on principles and rooted bases taken from the rules of Islamic religion and original Arab traditions. The main characteristics of the Foreign Policy is support of Arabic and Islamic solidarity, defense of the fair Arabic and Islamic cases , service of Islam and Muslims all over the world, maintaining the international stability and peace and non interference in other countries interior affairs. On the other side, not allowing others to interfere in its affairs.

 

Foreign Aid:

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia comes at the top of world countries concerning the offered aids in comparison with the gross national production. The percentage decided by the United Nations to the granted countries is 0.70% of its total income. The offered percentage by the Kingdom to the developing countries reached 5.45% of the annual average for the gross national production. Where as the percentage of foreign aids of the biggest industrial countries in comparison to its national production did not reach to the level given by the Kingdom.

Saudi Development Fund is considered the principal department to offer the Saudi aids to the developing countries. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia comes at the top of world countries to aid the effected from natural calamities and the civil wars that broke in some of the Arab and Muslim countries through the agencies and popular committees supported by the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
