On April 17th, 2018, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud, - May Allah Protect Him- issued a royal decree appointing Ambassador Osama bin Ahmad Abbas Nugali as Saudi Ambassador to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League.
Ambassador Osama Nugali, born 1958, obtained a bachelor degree in Public Administration from King Abdul-Aziz University in Jeddah in 1980. He then obtained a diploma in Diplomatic Studies from the Institute of Diplomatic Studies in 1983.
Ambassador Osama Nugali joined the Foreign Ministry of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1981, as diplomatic attaché. His diplomatic experience was acquired through working in various diplomatic departments such as; The International-Economic Relations Department, Political Department, International Organizations Department, and Consulate Affairs Department. He then joined the Foreign Minister's Office for Media Affairs in 1986, before working at the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Washington DC in 1988, where he held the position of Deputy Head of the Media Department, until he was appointed as the Head of Media at the Embassy.
Upon returning from the United States in 1997, he was appointed as the Head of Foreign Minister's Office for Media Affairs until 2018, where he was appointed as the "First" Undersecretary of the newly-created Foreign Ministry's Department for Public Diplomacy.
During his diplomatic career, Ambassador Osama Nugali participated in several Foreign Minister's official delegations to bilateral and multilateral meetings held by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the United Nations (UN), the Non-Alignment Movement, the European Union (EU), in addition to attending regional and international meetings since 1981.
He also accompanied the Foreign Minister on official visits conducted by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Highness, the Crown Prince, and participated in the minister's accompanying delegations to international conferences such as Islamic; Gulf; and Arab summits, as well as to the UN General Assembly's high-level meetings.
Ambassador Osama Nugali represented the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at several regional and international forums; including "The Kingdom Between Yesterday And Tomorrow Exhibition" which was held in Egypt, the USA, and Canada since 1985. He also represented the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Washington, as a member of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation's Committee in the World Cup in 1994, which was the first time the Saudi National Football Team competed in the World Cup. He also represented the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Washington at the Saudi meetings participating in the "Atlanta Olympics" in 1996.
At the social and cultural levels, Ambassador Osama Nugali was a member of several Saudi institutions, including being in the Boards of Trustees of the Saudi Broadcasting Corporation and the Saudi Press Agency. He was also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the "UNESCO Chair for Dialogue among Inter-Faith and Inter-Cultural Followers", the Disabled Children's Association, and the Advisory Board of the Salam Project for Civilizational Communication.
Ambassador Osama Nugali is married to Sharifah "Nahed bint Fahd bin Abdullah Al Hazaa". He has three daughters and a son: Nour, Balqees, Dania and Abdul-Aziz.
