The "Saudi Arabia Green Initiative" and the "Green Middle East Initiative", which were announced by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, confirm the Kingdom's commitment to protect the environment and improve people’s quality of life.
The Kingdom fully recognizes its share of responsibility in combatting climate change, especially through its role as a leading global oil producer. On the one hand, the Saudi Green Initiative will serve as a well-defined approach for Kingdom to reduce its carbon emissions, rehabilitate degraded lands, and preserve marine life. On the other hand, the Middle East Green Initiative will be in collaboration with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and Middle Eastern countries. It is aimed to resolve the regional challenges that are hindering the economic growth, such as; water scarcity, desertification, and air pollution from greenhouse gases.
Addressing climate change impact and the increasing greenhouse gas emissions requires constant international cooperation and coordination. The two initiatives play a significant role in combatting climate change, strengthening competitiveness, and creating job opportunities. Because international collaboration is an important element to the initiatives’ success, it is highly encouraged that international key players and organizations support the Kingdom’s efforts in protecting the environment.
