Location

The Indian Peninsula is separated from mainland Asia by the Himalayas. The country is surrounded by the Bay of Bengal in the east, the Arabian Sea in the west, and the Indian Ocean in the south.

Major Exports from India

Natural or cultured pearls – Hyderabad, a city in India, is famous for natural and cultured pearls.

Minerals – Chota Nagpur plateau and the Odisha plateau are rich in coal, iron ore, manganese, mica, bauxite, kyanite and beryl. Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh are rich in manganese, bauxite, uranium, limestone and gems. Karnataka plateau and Tamil Nadu are known for ferrous minerals and bauxite. The states of Rajasthan and Gujarat are famous for non-ferrous minerals, uranium, mica, gypsum and emerald.

Pharmaceutical products – Maharashtra has the maximum number of registered pharmaceutical companies in India, followed by Gujarat, Telangana and Delhi.

Cereals – India is a leading exporter of wheat, paddy, millet, barley, maize, rice and sugarcane, grown primarily in the states of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

Cotton – India is also a leading exporter of cotton, produced mainly in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh
